Darren visits GTG Training

Darren Henry, Prospective Conservative MP, met with Jon Douglass, Centre Manager for GTG Training, today to discuss apprentices.  At GTG Training, there are a huge range of apprenticeship programmes on offer. GTG West Midlands, offers people aged 16 or over the opportunity to earn while they learn. Since they launched the Apprenticeship programme in 1994, over 3000 people have achieved an Apprenticeship and full time employment.

On the 28 April 2015, the Prime Minister announced that a Conservative Government will create a new three year fund to create 50,000 new apprenticeships or traineeships for young unemployed people using money from new LIBOR fines, as part of our plan to abolish long-term youth unemployment. But we have already doubled the number of apprenticeships.

Darren commented ‘There were around 1 million apprenticeships started in the 2005 Parliament, however over 2 million have been created with a Conservative government and we will have 3 million over the next Parliament. We will continue to replace lower level, classroom-based further education courses with high quality apprenticeships.

If I was elected as the MP for Wolverhampton North East, a key objective of mine would be to work with companies such as GTG to develop a range of education and training pathways for our young people to be afforded the best opportunities in work, apprenticeships or university and beyond that to choose to stay in this area to work and raise their families.’
