Darren said “The purpose of this Traffic Forum was to give residents an opportunity to voice their opinion on the unique traffic problems experienced in the village of Shrewton. It was clear from the high numbers of people in attendance that locals are very concerned about this growing traffic problem”.
When the A344 shut, which ran from its junction with the A303 at Stonehenge, northwest to its junction with the A360, traffic normally routing to the A360 at Airman’s Corner to avoid the single carriage way at Stonehenge, now turns off at Countess roundabout heading north on the A345 and turns west travelling through Larkhill on The Packway. Once out of Larkhill on the open stretch of The Packway, vehicles attempting to join the A360 often overshoot the correct turning for the B3086 at Rollestone Crossroads, owing to travelling at speed or following sat navs, and end up in Shrewton High Street. The key to addressing this problem is reshaping the junction at Rollestone Crossroads so westbound traffic on The Packway naturally flows back to Airman’s Corner to join the A360.
Once in the Village the main traffic issues are speeding and dangerous driving on the London Road, which connects the High Street with The Packway, and vehicles contravening weight and size restrictions on Salisbury Road, which is the B3083, whilst travelling between Shrewton and Winterbourne Stoke.
